The mission of Studio Kereya is to promote community growth through the music of West Africa. Using the djembe and dunun orchestra, Carl Nickerson travels around New England bringing people together and into their own rhythm.
Wether a one-on-one lesson on advanced techniques or a grade school residency introducing the music of West Africa to a whole new generation, Carl brings a passion for personal development, community building and the complex percussion music of the Mandingue.
As an teaching entity, Studio Kereya offers a diverse range of activities: Weekly drumming classes are held in Portsmouth, NH. Drum Circles and seminars are presented throughout the North East, performances from one of the many ensembles that Carl is involved in, and above all, a meeting point for the West African drumming community here in New England.
