Carl on dunun

Carl Nickerson is a native of New Hampshire and a musician by birth. While percussion is his instrument of choice, the djembe is his passion. His djembe career began in 1999 when he met Master Drummer and Guinean, Mamady Keita. He is currently working towards his certification in Tam Tam Mandigue; the internationally recognized school created by Mamady Keita. Carl is also a percussion teacher; most notably of the djembe and dununs. His goal as a teacher is to impart an appreciation for the music and culture of the people of West Africa and to build community through music. Carl holds a bachelor's degree in music education and a master's in music both from University of New Hampshire. While his education is on-going; a few of the instruments in his repetoire are the west african djembe, ngoni, ballaphone and kora, as well as western percussion instruments such as marimba, malletkat, and drumset.

Carl lectures, performs, teaches and repairs djembes in the greater area of northern New England.
